The festive season is almost upon us and although Pattaya might not seem like one of the most obvious places to enjoy Christmas you would be surprised about how much is actually going on. Christmas in Pattaya is an excellent, fun time and in actual fact one of my favourite times of the year – certainly something that I would not have said when I was back in UK. Like most things that go on in this city it is ‘fun’ and everyone is concentrating on enjoying themselves rather than getting too tied up in the things that us blokes hate – namely Christmas shopping.
With Thailand being a Buddhist country, Christmas not surprisingly is not something that seems to last for 3 months of the year like it does in some countries. In fact it usually lasts around 3 days and then we move on to the New Year celebrations which are again excellent. Now I don’t want you to get me wrong, I am not anti-Christmas by any means, in fact I actually quite enjoy it but it can get a little bit too much so three days is just fine by me.
So what can you do in Pattaya that makes it so great? Most of us enjoy our Christmas dinner and there are literally dozens of places around the city that of the traditional Christmas dinner with all the trimmings. The bars get into the Christmas spirit and generally everyone has a great time – so it reality there aren’t over the top celebrations or anything too extravagant so maybe this is the reason why everyone loves it. Everything is nice, simple and relaxed – oh and the weather certainly helps!
When you are celebrating Christmas there isn’t much that you miss about back home – except maybe friends and family. You don’t actually seem to miss out on anything, you can get Christmas trees, decorations, presents and everything associated with an enjoyable Christmas without any of the hassle. I can honestly say that I have enjoyed the last few Christmas in Thailand far more than I have enjoyed the vast majority in the UK so would I swap it – not a chance. I enjoy Christmas here and I am absolutely sure that I will enjoy the New Year celebrations as well so I will sit back, relax, no doubt get extremely drunk and enjoy the ‘fun’!
Merry Christmas everyone and have a fabulous New Year!
